GR20

Where?: Corsica
When?: August 2018
How long?: 12 days (+ 1 rest day)
-In general I always took the high level route when there was a choice between low and high routes, and always did the optional excursions to ascend the peaks of mountains.

“GR20 is a long distance trail that traverses Corsica diagonally from north to south. It is considered to be the most difficult of all the GR routes and one of the most beautiful mountain trail in Europe. It’s 180km long with variation in height of about 10 000 metres.” (corsica.forhikers.com/gr20)

Day 1 (Stage 1 + excursion to climb Monte Corona (2151m))

Day 2 (Stages 2 & 3)

Day 3 (Stage 4 + excursion to climb Monte Cinto (2710m – highest mountain in Corsica))

Day 4 (Stage 5 only – I chickened out of ascending Paglia Orba (2525m) due to evil-looking cloud, and didn’t regret the decision one bit as I had a wonderful day and even had time for a dip!)

Day 5 (Stage 6 + link route to Corte)

Rest day (Corte)

Day 6 (link route back to GR20 + stage 7)

Day 7 (Stage 8 (high level) and Stage 9 (high level). I went up to the saddle of Monte d’Oro (2389m) but didn’t ascend the peak due to thunderstorms)

Day 8 (Stage 10. I was not doing well due to shenanigans on the previous day so didn’t take any photos – I was very much focused on just getting through the day.)

Day 9 (Stage 11 (high level.) Amy back on top!)

Day 10 (Stages 12 & 13)

Day 11 (Stage 14 (+ excursion to Monte Alcudina (2136m)) & stage 15)

Day 12 (Stage 16 – The finish!)
